Kearny Bank Raises Over $1,200 For Meadowlands Basket Brigade

The spirit of Thanksgiving is alive and well at Kearny Bank’s Lyndhurst branch location. With the annual holiday approaching, Branch Manager Kathy Giunta challenged her staff to raise money to benefit those in need. And they’ve responded with gusto, via an in-bank effort that supports the Meadowlands Regional Chamber’s Meadowlands Basket Brigade with over $1,200 to date.

Kearny Bank Lyndhurst Branch Manager Kathy Giunta and Guzzo+Guzzo Architects Principal and Meadowlands Basket Brigade Chair Anthony Guzzo with the staff of the Kearny Bank Lyndhurst Branch, which raised over $1,200 toward the fundraiser.

The process is a simple one. Lyndhurst branch employees make customers aware of the fundraiser and offer them the opportunity to donate. Every $45 raised provides a Thanksgiving Basket to a local family of up to six people. The basket includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, fresh rolls and more.

Every donation by a Kearny Bank customer is represented by a new paper feather–complete with that customer’s name on it–which is added to the turkey poster prominently displayed in the branch’s main lobby.

“This is a great fundraiser because it’s so tangible–when one of our customers donates money, they know they’re contributing to a local family being able to sit down and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner,” Giunta explains. “It’s just wonderful. And each time a donation is made, you can sense the excitement among our Kearny Bank team members.”

The goal for the 2017 Meadowlands Basket Brigade is raising a total of $13,000–enough to provide Thanksgiving meals for 300 local families. Donations can also be made online.
